  3. QUESTION:
I need a good healthy cookbook, and am looking for recommendations.?
I am a single woman living in a small town. My budget is about average for America's standards. In other words, I can only afford seafood once a week and organic vegetables only when forced to.
I don't believe in substituting splenda for sugar, but do believe in substituting olive oil for butter (when applicable). I'd rather not get a recipe book that calls for so many chemical alternatives that it's like eating processed cardboard.
What I'd be interested in would be a collection of good-for-you recipes that makes flavorful dishes. Is it so bad to want to eat healthy food that tastes good as well? A plus would be suggested portion sizes.

  5. QUESTION:
    Good recipe additions?
I am in a bake off competiion and we have to bake something other than cookies. They said to try and make your item "stand out".I really want to win, but all my cookbook recipes are pretty dull and boring! I was thinking of using a general brownie recipe, but adding a couple little twist for flavor, then cutting them into small squares and glazing them with icing to make mini-cakes! But I cant think of anything that would go good with the recipe that I could add. Here is the recipe:

    brownie mix-
    3/4 c. flour
    1/4 c.+2 tbs. cocoa powder
    1 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/3 c. apple sauce
    3 egg whites
    1 tsp. vanilla

    Icing:
    1/2 c. water
    1/4 c. butter
    1/2 c. cocoa powder
    3 c. powdered sugar
    2 tsp. vanilla

(I know the recipes may look weird, they are from a healthy living cookbook)

What can I add to either the brownie mix or the icing to make them really stand out?

    • ANSWER:
After you take them out of the oven, sprinkle with miniature marshmallows, choc chips and nuts (Rocky Road Squares) and put it all back in the oven until the marshmallows are a golden brown colour. Everyone loves them.

  7. QUESTION:
    Can anyone recommend a cookbook?
I am trying to eat healthier, but I don't really know where to begin. Does anyone have a great cookbook they couldn't live without that makes recipes that people like me (who are used to fat, refined carbs, etc) can enjoy? I would rather start with some recipe makeovers, which I can experiment with, and then move into learning to like new things from there. I hope this makes sense.

    • ANSWER:
A good book for starters is "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon. It's healthy, but not vegetarian, A classic in healthy cooking.
      http://www.amazon.com/Nourishing-Traditions-Challenges-Politically-Dictocrats/dp/0967089735/sr=8-1/qid=1161629648/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-6602502-4886434?ie=UTF8

I also like "The Vegetarian Mother's Cookbook" has tons of easy and healthy recipes, and their nutritional value. I use it a lot, even if I am not vegetarian.
      http://www.amazon.com/Vegetarian-Mothers-Cookbook-Pregnant-Breastfeeding/dp/0972469060/sr=1-1/qid=1161629780/ref=sr_1_1/002-6602502-4886434?ie=UTF8&s=books

I think waht you say makes sense. A good start is, do whatever recipe you are used to, but use whole grains. Example: brown rice instead of white, whole wheat pasta instead of white, etc. As a general rule, avoid white grains.
Eating organic will also make a healthy difference. Trader Joe's has good prices on healthy foods.

  8. QUESTION:
What is the best cook book for vegans? Any recommendations?
I am doing an experiment to see if vegans can get all of the proper nutrition they need to live healthy. I would like to use a cookbook and I was wondering if anyone had an suggestions of a good cookbook to use.

    • ANSWER:
Why would you think that vegans couldn't get all of the proper nutrition? I can tell you that they can. I've been vegan for over 6 years. I recently had a thorough exam, including blood tests done to see how my health is. All of my tests came back with more than perfect results, and this includes B12,calcium,iron,protein etc. My doctor actually said that my health is of someone more than 10 years younger than me(I'm 34). I look younger than people my age,by more than 10 years, too(or so I'm told by people young and old,no one ever seems to believe my age).
The thing with the vegan diet is that ,it's the same with a meat-eating diet. You can be healthy or unhealthy. You still have to think about what you're eating, even if you have meat in your diet. The difference with the vegan diet is,since you can't just eat whatever someone puts in your face, you actually have/get to plan what you're going to eat. You can't just run into McDonald's whenever you're hungry, you have/get to go home and plan dinner. You can't just go out to work or school and settle with whatever slop you're being served, you actually have/get to plan what you're going to have to eat for the day.

After having said all of this, some of my favorite cookbooks are-La Dolce Vegan,In the Garden of Vegan and How it All Vegan-all by Sarah Kramer. Another one, which is my absolute favorite is Vegan Planet-by Robin Robertson. It has over 400 vegan recipes.
A lot of people like Vegan with a Vengeance, but I think it uses too much meat and cheese substitutes. I only use this cookbook on occasion.

Remember, there's such a thing as overweight and underweight vegans. it's possible to put weight on for a skinny girl(healthily, just as well as unhealthily),just as it's possible to lose weight for someone who struggles with weight, and it could, again,be healthy or unhealthy weight-loss. You can still live off of french fries and potato chips,or you can eat a variety of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, with a moderate amount of substitutes. It's a choice that's the same no matter if you have meat or not in your diet.

  9. QUESTION:
can anybody tell me the name of a good cookbook?
i need the name of a cookbook for diabetics, something that non-diabetics would eat, food with flavor that is healthy and doesn't cost a mint to make. fresh veggies are getting boring! i live in a big truck so my cooking ability is a little limited,i do have a slow cooker type stove.

    • ANSWER:
try low fat cookbooks by Rachel Ray

  10. QUESTION:
How to eat healthy? Need advice and ideas.?
I recently decided to live a healthier life. I have cut out alot of the junk I was eating and dropped thirty pounds. I still have twenty more to go to meet my goal. My problem is the healthier I get the more I realize I don't know or remember much about being healthy. I thought I knew how to eat healthy (as a former athlete), but half the stuff I did then is considered wrong now (high carbs). I need to eat healthy but I don't want to be bored with my food. I really want a new and permanent way of living. Any suggestions for cookbooks or recipes. How do you survive a healthy lifestyle and still enjoy yourself? Advice?

    • ANSWER:
As a general rule you need 3 portions of carbohydrate, (ideally wholegrains such as brown rice or wholewheat pasta), 3 of protein (such as eggs or beans), 3 of fats (for example a small handful of nuts or some avocado), 2 of dairy (like cheese) and at least 5 of fruit and vegetables. Out of these, chose ones you like so you're more likely to stick with it. Drink lots of water and aim for about 1700 calories a day.
In terms of excersize, something as simple as an hours walk a day will vastly improve your fitness. Add in some weights a couple of times a week to build muscle tone.
      Good luck. X

Went to Barnes/Nobles, they didn't have any. I live alone & am not a big eater; just want to ensure what I DO eat is healthy. I naturally lean towards the Mediterranean Diet anyhow so I may as well start learning it. Do you have a cookbook you've personally tried & can recommend for me?
    Thanx.

    • ANSWER:
"The Mediterranean Vegan Cookbook" has some really great dishes in it. I got it not because I am vegan, but because it had several of the recipes in it that I couldn't find but had eaten before. For example, the "Roasted Eggplant Salad" (Baba Ghanouj) is really good! The "Greek Currant Cake" is also really good as well!

It doesn't have photos in it (if that is important to you, you are going to be let down by that).

If your looking to use the book as part of a diet (to lose weight), would suggest that you reduce the fat content in the recipes by substitution of broth or water for the oil (can't do this in the cake recipes of course - all this suggestion within cookbook). Calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, sodium, and cholesterol analysis for each recipe as well.

You might also like the "Meals in Minutes" section of the cookbook if you are a very busy person where time is premium.

  18. QUESTION:
    Is tuna noodle casserole healthy?
I found a simple recipe in my cookbook, and its the same as a recipe I found online.
I bought bread crumbs, butter, a casserole pan that's small enough for me because I live alone.

And I bought peas. I've never made anything but cake in the oven. Also, do you sprinkle the bread crumbs to COMPLETELY cover the surface of the tuna/egg noodes/peas mixture, or just a little bit of bread crumbs?

    • ANSWER:
It's nourishing and hearty, and you get protein from the tuna and vitamins from the peas. You can add some chopped onion to it if if you like. I would just sprinkle a half a cup of bread crumbs evenly over the top--you don't have to coat it. It's really good with a little grated cheddar cheese sprinkled on top too :-)

  21. QUESTION:
Where can I find healthy (low fat, low sugar) vegan recipes? I want to start the Lupus recovery diet!?
I just ordered this book: http://www.lupusrecoverydiet.com/, and I am pretty sure most of this is true. But I will have to wait several weeks until it is here (I live in France). I want to start this program right NOW!

So does anybody know good webpages (or books I could order in Europe with no waiting for weeks) with really healthy (low-fat and low-sugar and all) vegan recipes? I feel a bit helpless right now, I used to eat cheese and eggs all days... Can I prepare pancakes or omelette without eggs and much fat? Help!

(My library does not have vegan cookbooks, and I have cooked already mostly vegetarian, the problem are the eggs and cheese and all. How to replace in a healthy way? Or cook something else, which is comforting and filling but still low fat and all? This seems so difficult)
@ dog lover: I would be pretty glad, if I would not have Lupus, but i have been tested positively and I have partially VERY severe symptoms since years. That's the reason why I am so persistent right now!
Really, I sit here in front of the computer and my head is burning hot and aches, my tummy aches badly too and I feel awful *sob* Thankfully, at least the rashes I had all over my face are gone - but I ate only apples and raw veggies today!

    • ANSWER:
Just go to your nearest natural and organic food store. They will have vegan recipes for you to get.

  22. QUESTION:
Good Christmas Presents for Newly Diagnosed Diabetes Parent?
Hey everyone! My mom was diagnosed with diabetes last month and she has never been a healthy eater. She eats high in fat, sugar, sodium, etc. foods. She told me she is eating healthier, but I live far away from her and I'm not sure if she is eating healthier or continuing on her old path. I am concerned that she isn't. She is 52 years old and has many other underlying conditions that put significant pressures on her making the right food choices.

She's not much of cooking her own food, but I think it is important to do so. My current idea for a Christmas gift was to give her a couple diabetes cookbooks, particularly a cookbook that shows simple meals and another that shows how she can make her own snacks. As an aspiring chef I thought it would be important to help show my mom how easy a recipe can be from one of the cookbooks.

I first want to ask what people think of my idea for Christmas?
Does anyone know of other gift ideas to help her?
What are some cookbooks you all would recommend?

    Thank you for helping me.

  23. QUESTION:
I want recipes that will make me gain weight! Please help me!?
    Hi!

This may sound very silly but I need recipes that will make me gain weight. I have a condition called Cystic Fibrosis which means that gaining weight is almost impossible.

Seeing as we are now bombarded with "healthy foods" those with eating disorders and people who are underweight because of illness, it is almost impossible to find some nice high calorie and high fat recipes.

Since the last month or two I have not been doing great as I have lost 8kg with no change to my diet. I am now getting desperate and need that 8kg back to help fight chest infections ect. I can quite literally eat whatever I want and not get fat (which is not as great as it sounds as I need this weight to live)

I really need a collection of some good weight gaining recipes. I would love to come back to this page and be able to print lots of recipes that will help save my life.

There are 800 million underweight people worldwide and I am surprised nobody has made high fat/calorie recipes more widely available.

I have just bought "The bad for you cookbook" and "Eat Up!: The Healthy Weight Gain Cookbook" so I am aware of these but any others will be truly welcome.

So dust of those old cookbooks (the ones made before everyone switched to healthy eating) and share your recipes!

    Many thanks!

I look forward to eating your suggestions!

    • ANSWER:
I am a 38 male with CF. I was down to 135 pounds 5 years ago. I have gotten my weight up to 175 pounds since then by weight training, eating better high calorie meals and supplements.

Here is some easy to fix examples.
PB&J Sandwich. . I use high protein bread that has 7g/slice. Feel free to use honey or sliced banana if jelly gets boring. Goes great with a tall glass of milk.

Cold Macaroni Salad/Potato Salad. Yes, those big tubs in the grocery store. TONS of cals in just a 1/2 cup serving. Cottage cheese is great stirred into it for extra protein. So much mayo, it's very easy to overeat on this stuff.

Chef Boyardee. Jumbo Spaghetti & Meatballs are just 86 cents and they even come in an easy open can. I don't even bother heating them up. 540 cals, 24g protein.

Whole Milk. 1 quart has 600 cals & 32g protein..

Trail Mix. I buy the Walmart brand. Nuts, raisins, m&ms. 160 cals in just 3 tablespoons.

Baked Beans. A can of Bush's Southern Pit BBQ has 850 cals. 30g protein, 30g fiber.

Simply Asia Noodle Bowls. Incredibly overpriced for what they are (about .50/bowl for flavored noodles), but frickin delicious and literally ready to eat after 2min in the microwave. 79g carbs/14g protein/410 cals. I love eating these after a workout. I like every flavor I've tried.

Buger King. Since the DBL Cheese is now .20, you gotta get a DBL cheese for a buck. Good buy.

      Supplements:
SCANDISHAKE calorie-rich shake mix is designed to assist patients who need to gain or maintain weight. Mixed with 8 ounces of whole milk, a single serving of SCANDISHAKE® contains approximately 600 calories!

It is generally thought that a daily caloric intake of about 15 times your bodyweight is your maintenance diet. So, if you weigh 140 pounds, your maintenance diet would be about 2,100 calories per day (140 x 15=2,100). To gain weight you must increase your calories from your maintenance intake. To start, most people will want to increase their daily caloric intake to 18-20 times their bodyweight.

(18-20)(Bodyweight in pounds) = Daily Caloric Intake

Finally you must allways use :
Pancreatic Enzyme Replacements with each meal

  24. QUESTION:
Which dog foods are safe, if any?
This is the dog food we are currently feeding our dogs. It is safe, right?

    http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w248/babyyouradorable/Purina1.jpg

If this dog food isn't safe what is. The other day I was told Purina's food was on the recall list. I thought it was only wet food but then I was told their dry food is, too. I am so scared for my dogs, I do not want anything to happen to them. I downloaded the "Free Dog Cook Book" from http://www.i-love-dogs.com Has anyone else tried this. Are the foods in it good? Are they healthy?
I am a concerned doggy parent and only want what's best for my babies. They are very important to me and I don't want anything to happen to them. I want them to live a long healthy life.
Btw, are ANY of the dry dog foods on the market 100% safe to use? Maybe I better start shopping for the ingredients in my dog cookbook?

    • ANSWER:
When you think about it, what does your dog need from its food in order to be healthy?

Today our pets have a wide variety to meet their tastes and needs and we have our choice of what kind of food we can choose to feed them. Despite the variety, pet foods usually fall into three major categories. These categories are: Grocery store foods, these types of dog and pet foods are usually found in grocery stores and mass marketed retailers and can contain lower quality, less expensive ingredients. The second category is "premium dog foods," which can also be found in grocery's stores but are also found in pet stores and through your local veterinarian's office. These types of foods are usually made from some higher quality ingredients and are usually made evident by the expense of the food. Some of these pet foods though can contain lower quality ingredients that you aren't aware of. The third and final category is homemade dog food.More and more people are beginning to make their dog's food at home rather than buying commercial formulas. Homemade dog food doesn't contain any substances that could possibly be harmful to your dog's health such as artificial coloring and artificial flavors.

Another reason to make homemade dog food is the preservatives added to the commercial dog food. Homemade dog food has the benefit of optimum freshness without preservatives.

There are dogs that would greatly benefit from a homemade diet. Some dogs who suffer from allergies that cause severe itching may find relief once switched from commercial dog food to a homemade diet.

Processed dog food is a relatively new product and scientists don't fully understand the differences between commercial food and a diet of fresh food. There may be problems occurring in a dog's health because he is being given food that has had the nutrients cooked out of it and then sprayed back on.

Would you like to prolong the quality and length of your dog's life by 135%?You should keep your dog healthy by homemade dog food.

  25. QUESTION:
What's for dinner? [read the description]
It’s 5:00 and you’re headed home. Very likely, in traffic. And if you’re like me, you’re thinking about what you want for dinner. But you really don’t want to go out to eat again - it’s not healthy, it’s expensive, and homemade food is so much tastier. But… you’re tired. You’ve had a long day, and likely so has your partner. It looks like another night of take-out pizza, burgers, or tacos.

So how can you make more homemade meals and minimize inconvenience? Lists and routines. It sounds simple, but my mother taught me that it takes a month of repeating a specific behavior to ease it into “routine” status.

I’ll admit it seems simplistic, but it’s true. The lists help, and when I started living on my own, the lists saved me. I start by writing down my basics on a grocery list. My staples are milk, eggs, yogurt, bread, bananas, tomatoes, rice, and oatmeal. When you make your list of staples, think about the things you eat all of the time, and those foods that supplement other meals. That’s the beginning of the list.

When I’m planning meals, which I generally do once a week before grocery shopping, I consider the weather, seasonality of ingredients, my cravings, favorites, and recipes from a couple of cookbooks. While you’ve got the cookbooks in front of you, add the ingredients to your list, considering any items you might already have in the fridge. We stick Post-Its to the fridge listing what ingredients we have.

We usually do most of our cooking prep on Sunday afternoons, meaning, we throw together 3-4 meals and stick them in the freezer. It’s not a glamorous Sunday afternoon, but two hours in the kitchen usually means terrific meals later in the week. Also, it’s surprisingly fun having your partner as your chef (or sous-chef)!

How do you balance busy schedules and home-cooked meals?

    • ANSWER:
you stole this question from the other thing, right? right.

  26. QUESTION:
Ok, maybe some of the guys can help, since nobody in the other category is answering...?
I need a great beginner's cookbook for my boyfriend, who knows nothing about nutrition or cooking. Does anyone know of one?

First of all, we don't live together. I'm trying to get him to cook at home/prepare veggies and all that, and stop going out and binging on fast food whenever he's hungry! (He doesn't even keep food at home right now.) Now don't get me wrong -- I'm not pushing the idea on him; it was his. But he really has no idea where to start, and until I find him some good info, I know it's gonna be Carl's Jr. for him every day!

What I'm looking for specifically is something that will be realistic for a GUY who's never cooked before, who doesn't really care or want to spend a lot of time or effort on food preparation. Something that he'll actually use, that starts with the basics, and is healthy.

    Thanks soooo much! :D

  27. QUESTION:
    Diet Help/Suggestions? Serious answers please.?
Up until age 17 I was very overweight. The year I turned 18 I lost 140 lbs. A couple years ago I went through a lot of depression, and ended up gaining half of it back. I am now about to turn 25 and I'm miserable looking this way. I live a very on the go life, and have never been taught how to cook. When I lost all my weight before it was by keeping my calories under 1200 and exercise. I had unlimited funds back then,my mother to cook for me, and I had the time to spend hours every day at a gym and planning meals. Now that I work two jobs, live 3,000 miles away from my mother, and live on a budget I'm finding it a lot harder to kick start my diet. Not to mention I hardly have any energy. I've going to the gym at least 3 times a week the past couple months but I'm still into my too much of a portion, high calorie, low cost food. I need some easy to make, afforadable, quick (no more then 30 mins), healthy meals. I thought about ediets and jenny craig (I know they are expensive, but it would cut from the grocery bills and in another month I'll have some extra money to add to my monthly budget) because they would require little effort and planning, and I know they would make me lose weight. But I'm told they arnt that healthy and the food tastes bad. Can anyone suggest me a certain diet, or cookbook, or give me some other suggestions to help me in this? Also, I love high impact workout videos for the days inbetween the gym, such as turbo jam. Any other HIGH impact workouts on dvd you could suggest? I just got engaged last week, and want to be a size 8 again for my wedding in another year. I also just want to be able to enjoy the rest of my youth.

    • ANSWER:
If you like high impact cardio DVD's like Turbo Jam, you may want to get Turbo Fire (another Beach Body program featuring Chalene Johnson). I just ordered it over the weekend. It's supposed to really fire up your metabolism with high intensity interval training. The HIIT workouts use pylometrics (jumping exercises) to really get your heart pumping. Other workouts are like an intense Cardio Party. There's also stretching and strength training. It's a 90 day program with a schedule and food guide.

Cut out sweets, seconds, and junk including processed foods and things made from white flour. Use the whole grain version instead like whole wheat or multi-grain bread, whole wheat pasta (which I actually prefer), and brown rice. Drink only water. However, allow yourself one small cheat a week. This keeps you from feeling deprived and gives you something to look forward to the rest of the week.

Try dividing your plate into quarters. First fill half with fruits and veggies, The other quarters are for the lean protein and whole grain carb. This will help limit your calories and ensure you get plenty of fruits and veggies.

When shopping consider an 80/20 principle. 80 percent of the food should have no label like from the produce section or be whole foods like fresh lean meats, eggs, rice, dry beans, and oatmeal. Bagged veggies (frozen or fresh) without sauce count here as well, but not canned The other 20 should be healthy things with labels like whole grain pasta, cereal, and bread; natural cheese; low sodium spaghetti sauces; and dairy. Avoid heavily processed foods. You'll do most of your shopping from the outer aisles.

  28. QUESTION:
how to lose 20 pounds in 4 weeks?
ok so school is going to start in 4 weeks and i want to look thin.
im a pre teen and weigh more than people my age should. every one says that i look good but i dont.
dont suggest things like throw away all unhealthy food cuz im a pre teen! i dont live alone and i have siblings so ya! for breakfast i usally drink a banana smoothie that i saw in this carblovers diet cookbook. for lunch i usally have something different each day so u could suggest what things to eat that would be healthy. and for dinner we have things like burritos spaghetti rice bowls chicken hamburgers and sometimes like steak. so you could suggest like how to make those things healthy. and i have desserts on fridays saturdays and sundays. and i love to snack alot. also i want to know some good excersizes and stuff like that. and when school starts again i wont be able to make anything i want and im probably gonna have school lunch a lot so yeah. if you have any rude comments to say dont say them. and im not gonna make my self throw up and i wont do any weight loss pills and i wont do like surgery!!!!!!! plz give your answers fast school is gonna start in 4 weeks! :)

    • ANSWER:
make sure you always eat breakfest. fruit smoothies are good, but try to make your own instead of buying already made ones at the grocery store. that way you know exactly what is in it. cut out soda, its fattening. make sure you have green leafy vegtables every day. you could throw some in an omelette for breakfest, or have salad with lunch and dinner. forget white pasta and white bread. instead eat whole wheat pasta and whole wheat bread. EAT LOTS OF GOOD PROTIEN. steak, fish, grilled chicken. eat them with salad. you said you like to snack. snack on fruits and vegtables. they will make you full longer. also forget about any kind of crackers, unless they are whole wheat. stonyfield yogurt fruit smoothies are a great snack too.

the thing here is commitment. and use your own good judgement. dont eat crap. have ONE dessert ONCE a week. 3 times a week is too much. eat protien, salad, and fruits and vegtables. have a little bit of nuts too. these things will keep you full longer, keep your energy up, and you'll loose weight.

good exercises include walking, running, yoga, and the best is pilates. see if you can get yourself into a class.

    • ANSWER:
Cooking is a breeze now days. First you must get acquainted with your local grocery store. Clerks are there to help you, so ask for the manager or a clerk to walk around with you.

      What you will find:

Frozen dinners already cooked - follow directions on the boxes, warm in microwave. Stick with the big name brands for good taste. Add a can of veggies or frozen veggies as a side dish. Ask a clerk to show you where to find them.

Pre-cooked meats in sealed packages found in the cold section, not in the freezer, (just pop into the microwave for a few minutes) such as baked ham, pot roast with gravy, chops, chicken, meatloaf, and so much more. Ask a clerk to show you where to find them.

Canned vegetables to add as a side dish.
Canned sweet potatoes to add as a side dish.
Canned potatoes to add as a side dish.

Minute Rice as a side dish-follow directions on box.
Stove Top Stuffing-follow directions on box.
You can now buy these products in small containers that you add water to them, let them sit a few minutes, and then eat.

Frozen vegetables in large bags or small boxes. Heat in microwave. Ask a clerk to show you where to find them.

Fresh salad greens now come already cut up and in large packages. Buy the pre-washed types. All you have to do is add the salad dressing. Be sure to use by the date on the bag. Salads turn black and need to be thrown away if not used by the printed date on the bag.

Canned soups are delicious. Follow the directions on the cans.

      Canned stews are good too.

Frozen desserts of all types. Follow directions on the containers.

Bake shop inside the grocery store has all kinds of desserts.

The deli has delicious rotisserie/roasted chickens. They also have all types of side dishes for you to choose from.

But if you would like to cook from scratch, go to: http://www.cooks.com/rec/ch/main_dishes.html
where there are lots of easy recipes. Put this website into your "Favorites". At the website, scroll down the screen and read some of the dinner recipes. On the left hand side you will find categories.

Buy a crock pot, read the directions...you put your dinner recipe in the crock pot, turn the knob to low most of the time, and it will be cooking while you are away from your home. Buy a microwave too.

Here are 1,160 Crock Pot recipes:
      http://www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=crock+...

      Here are 2,600 Microwave recipes:
      http://www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=microwave+

There are jars of all types of sauces that you heat and eat for all kinds of noodles. These are found on a shelf. Noodles are in packages, follow the directions...most of the time you will need a deep pan for boiling lots of hot water for the noodles.
A clerk can help you find these items.

You will find many brand named boxed dinners such as Pasta-Roni. There is a seasoned packet in each box.
(My favorite is Garlic & Olive Oil. I put more garlic powder in it 'cause I like to taste lots of garlic)
Ask a clerk if you need help in finding these boxed dinners.

Remember...safety in the kitchen at all times. Keep EVERYTHING clean!!!

Keep hot foods hot, and cold foods cold!!!

And "when in doubt, throw it out".

I'm going vegan because I've heard what they do to animals that are used for eating >_<, the subject intrigues me, and I'm trying to go healthy-er for myself, and this earth.(:

    But yeah, I'd like to try some of those odd vegan meat substitutes.(;
What I'm looking for is like, chicken, and bacon.
I'm really not the biggest fan of tofu though..
And where do I get them? All I know is I can find tofu at the oritental store..
and I live by Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.

and another thing, does the tofu bacon (it's really called tempeh bacon, but i'd probably make the pressed tofu substitute instead.) from the Vegan with a Vengance cookbook taste like real bacon?
    Thanks!!!

    • ANSWER:
You can usually find mock meat in the freezer section of your local grocery store depending on where you live. Large cities and suburban grocery stores are more likely to have brands like morningstar and Boca burgers than stores in urban neighborhoods.

    How to start cooking?
Hello. I'm a big Disney fan and the reason I say this is because their work really motivates and inspires me a lot.. in fact it's why I chose my trade. So, I finally saw Ratatouille the other day and I loved it. I've never cooked before, but after seeing the movie it looks like it would be fun (and useful) to do.

I'm 23 and still live at home for the moment, but I'd like to start cooking maybe just once a week at first. Even though I've never cooked before and I'm sure my first dish won't be great, I don't really care how it comes out (though I'm sure others would).

I tried looking for the "Gusteau's" cookbook that was used in the movie, but so far it's not a real-world object. I'd like to make French dishes, something that looks and tastes good, and as a bonus something that is also moderately healthy.

I make sandwiches (that really suck) at work because I don't eat fast food, and I'd like to also replace that once I start cooking.

    Thanks for your time.

    • ANSWER:
Buy a good basic cook book to get started and once you master a few techniques then the rest is just practice.

I collect cookbooks and currently have over 700. I recommend starting with one of the following:

      Joy of Cooking
      How to Cook Everything
      Fannie Farmer Cookbook
Anything by James Beard or Julia Child (although Julia gets into some advanced cooking techniques)

If I was starting from scratch, I would start with the list above.

  32. QUESTION:
How to make my boyfriend accept that I want to go vegetarian?
So I've always said (for the last 10 years, so since I was 9) that as soon as I have my own place, I'm going vegetarian. I can barely stomach meat anymore, and never really was all that much of a fan of it to begin with. I am in university, and lived in dorms the last 2 years, which meant cafeteria food, and not a hell of a lot of choice. There were only so many "dorm-cooked" meals I could make with only a sink and a small fridge, and the cafeteria menu consisted manly of meat, so I skipped 1/2 my meals just so I didn't have to eat it (yeah, I know, not the healthiest. But it was either eat and perhaps be sick later, or not eat, and besides being hungry i was okay).

Anyway. 1 months ago my boyfriend of 3 years and I just got our first apartment (yay). I've been researching healthy vegetarian eating for many years, have many cookbooks, help books, etc etc, and I know I can be a vegetarian and STILL be healthy.

But my boyfriend just won't accept it. He's fighting me every inch of the way. He say's it's not healthy, and that I'm digging myself an early grave by being vegetarian, and since he intends to marry me, that he doesn't want to have to be constantly worrying about my health. Each time I assure him of how long I've wanted this, NEEDED this, and how much research I have done into vegetarianism. But still, he says he's concerned about me, and that I need to "stop this foolish thinking."

But, this isn't even really a choice anymore. I can't stomach meat. I cant bare to cook it, or eat it. And if it's rare, and someone ELSE is eating it, I have to avert my eyes.

If anyone says anything, the period thing (i.e. iron) concern isn't as much of an issue for me as it is for other women, as I have always only gotten my period every 5 months. Yes, that has been checked out by a doctor (multiple times over the last 7 years; just to ensure im STILL okay). So it's not like I have a period every month and need a hell of a lot of iron. Even so, there are vitamin suppliments for that, and iron can be obtained in other ways (kidney beans, soybeans, tofu (♥), asparagus, avocados, etc), along with other vitamins/minerals found commonly in meat.

How can I convince him I will be okay, and that this is what is best for me? We have a wonderful, wonderful relationship, and I know he is just concerned for me, and I value that. But I don't want to do it anyway, without knowing that he is content with my decision, and knows that I know how to take care of himself. I am not stopping him from eating meat, either. But I just can't eat it anymore. I don't want this (silly thing) to be an issue in our relationship. I do NOT want to dump him over this. I only want to make him see that what I am doing can still be a healthy lifestyle choice. I realize I can go ahead and go vegetarian without his "approval," but since he is my partner, I don't believe in just going ahead without him. We should be able to come to an agreement here. Again, I'm not telling him he cannot eat meat. If he enjoys it, great, and I will not judge him negatively for that.

    Any advice?

Please, no rude or criticizing remarks.
I don't need his permission, but in order to keep our relationship smoothly, I don't want to go and do things that he is blatantly against me doing. That is just asking for a fight or breakup.
No I will not eat fish.

I cannot put all my vegetarian knowledge on this question. That would be rather illogical, and no one would bother reading it.

I haven't done it yet because when I was 9-16 I lived with my parents, and they forbid it. Then from 17-19 I lived in a dormatory, and did not have many meat free options. The easiest is cooking for yourself, which I am now, at my own apartment.
Thank you to everyone who has posted so far. I still welcome more posts if more people wish to answer =).

You have all been lovely. Thank you for your input & support!

    • ANSWER:
I suggest asking him questions. For instance:

      - What are you worried about with me eating a vegetarian diet?
      - What nutrients do you think I will be deprived of?
      - What health issues do you think I will develop

      And the most important..

-Do you have proof that vegetarianism is unhealthy? Show me it.

He'll answer these with OPINIONS. You must answer with facts, and sources. Be calm. You've said you have done a lot of research, so go back to some of the websites and print out the facts.

I agree with the person who said not to rely on only vegetarian websites. Get both sides. Print out what some meat eaters say about how vegetarianism is bad. Then show him where the flaws in their arguments are. Eventually, he will run out of things to counter with your facts. Finally, end with how it is your choice, not his. You really value his opinion on the matter, and you want him to be okay with it, but if he isn't, then he is going to have to find a way to, or you are just going to go on with it without his permission. I understand that you want him to be okay with it, but it is YOUR choice, not his. Can you honestly say that you can live the rest of your life eating meat, when you know the bads about it, and that you had waited to become a vegetarian for TEN years, but just ignored what your body and mind told you for something your boyfriend really didn't know anything about?

  33. QUESTION:
    Help on a vegetarian meal?
I'm a teenage girl and i'm making dinner tomorrow for the fam.
i don't live in a place where the best ingredients are found, as in super fresh ahi tuna.
the meal has to be healthy and meat-free.
here's my ideas so far (all taken from jamie oliver cookbooks)
    Appetizer: fresh tomato/basil soup
Drink: mango lassi (i know it doesn't exactly fit, but we love them and i found a good recipe and the mangos are finally tasting good here)
Main dish: some sort of pasta, i've narrowed it down to 3: pasta carbonara, a pasta with mussels, or a pasta w/ artichoke
Side dish: NEED HELP HERE, what goes with pasta?
Dessert: NEED HELP HERE, something healthy! not necessarily fruit

    thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Pasta with artichokes sounds great! I think something with sundried tomatoes would be outstanding! Maybe this bruschetta? https://www.recipezaar.com/281862

And for dessert maybe a homemade frozen yogurt? I haven't made this yet, but all the reviewers seem to love it and it seems quick, easy, and delicious! http://www.recipezaar.com/35079

  34. QUESTION:
Vegetarians & vegans: what do u do most often: use veg/vegan recipes or modify nonveg/nonvegan recipes?
There's so few vegetarian & vegan cookbooks (the section at the largest bookstore in the city is only about 1/7th the size of the "ordinary cookbooks" section) that I find myself probably modifying more nonveg cookbooks & recipes. If there were more veg cookbooks, I'd be more inclined to use them. They tend to be healthier, include more veggies or fruits, and more health-related info.

    What about you?

I live in Canada, so I'm not sure if the U.S. has a larger selection of veg (meaning vegetarian or vegan) cookbooks. I've been to the U.S. quite a few times, and it seems the bookstores are, on average, larger. But that could be an incorrect statement, as I've only been in 4 or 5 of the U.S.'s states.

    • ANSWER:
Wow, there are a lot of vegan cookbooks out there now. Maybe check online if your bookstore doesn't carry them, or go to veg recipe web sites.

But 1/7th the size actually sounds about right. If you can find good veg cookbooks, who cares how many non-veg ones there are? I think in general there are probably too many cookbooks in the universe.

The problem with veganizing non-vegan recipes is that

#1: I dislike flipping through a book filled with stuff I don't eat and having to feel like a freak with all my "substitutes." A get a warm fuzzy feeling supporting and spending time with a vegan author who shares my cooking values.

#2: non-vegan recipes often use animal products such as cheese as a crutch to add flavor to a recipe that otherwise doesn't taste like much. A non-cookbook example: I used to think canned refried beans were pretty good until I went vegan and stopped smothering them in cheese. Turns out they're pretty bland. I make my own now from a vegan recipe and they taste terrific without cheese.

For these reasons I donated all my non-vegetarian cookbooks. Though I have held onto the simply non-vegan ones, I only use a few recipes in them. If you go with a vegetarian (not vegan) cookbook, take a look and see how cheese-heavy it is, and decide if that's how you want to eat.

  35. QUESTION:
How can I learn to become a really good cook ?
I bought literally dozens and dozens of cookbooks- basics and caribbean and cookiing for dummies. ( I am overwhelmed). No more space on my bookshelf! I need to learn how to cook from scratch. I live with my parents. My dad is a good cook - my mom cooks okay also. However , I want a different flavour and taste from what I have been tasting for years. I love to eat . I especially would love to learn how to cook carribbean meals from scratch. I am tired of buying lunch everyday at work. i realize : It is also cleaner and healthier to eat homemade cooked meals.

    • ANSWER:
Practice, Practice, Practice, and make sure you develop your palate so you know what tastes right and what doesn't.

    • ANSWER:
Well, if you've done your research and are confident that you can maintain a healthy balanced diet and he's still not convinced, then maybe it'd be good to try to get HIM to read some of the research. Maybe once he sees some of the facts and figures for himself he'll find it easier to believe that it is possible to be healthy AND vegetarian.
If that doesn't work, maybe the two of you should go and speak to a doctor or a nutritionist together. Maybe he'll believe it if he can hear it from a professional.
If that STILL doesn't work... then maybe try a different tack. Go for couples counseling. I know you say you have a great relationship and it may seem a little odd, but if this is something that's important to you and he's not willing to listen, even if that unwillingness is coming out of concern for your well-being, then you may need some sort of mediator to help the two of you resolve this.
      Best of luck!

      ----- Edit -----

If he's that worried about your health, maybe you could agree to get regular check-ups for the first little while to make sure everything's balanced and you're okay. It may be a bit of an inconvenience but if it'll give him peace of mind and get him to calm down about this whole thing, it might be worth it.
And, if after reading the research, speaking to a doctor, and arranging for regular check-ups, he's still not convinced, then I might be tempted to ask him what else is going on here. Why is this bothering him so much? There would seem to be more to it than just health concerns if he's still fighting it that hard after being shown that much evidence that it is safe and healthy.
At that point I'd probably be suggesting some sort of counseling again.

  2. QUESTION:
Is my seizure from my PTSD?
I recently had a seizure. It only lasted a bit over 2 minutes.
The thing is that I have PTSD from my traumatic childhood. I've been reading a lot of information about how certain things can cause NES. I am only 24 as of May so as you can imagine I can't exactly afford all of this. It's petty but if this is just my brain saying, "Enough!" and I could turn this around by living better then I would rather do that. I haven't exactly been living a healthy life or maintain healthy sleeping patterns.

I am pretty sure that the first suggestion anyone would make to me is to live my life better than I have been because its not that I have been depressed but I've been quite flatlined these last few months.

The thing is after the seizure I felt like I felt before all of my trauma happened. I felt like that little kid waiting for christmas to come, amazed at the day of "saturday" just because it's saturday and cartoons are on, or at every little toy in the box that fits in with my imagination. I feel better than I have in a long time.

So I am wondering how likely you think that this is a NES caused by PTSD or stress?
I went to the ER after it happened. They did a CT and blood tests but didn't find anything abnormal.

i have no clue, you should go see a doctor. or if you cant afford it, come to CANADA :D . HEY free health coverage and lots of friendly people. maybe even a new start in your life. :D

From Yahoo News today: "The Honey Monster, Tony The Tiger, and Snap, Crackle and Pop have been branded 'cartoon villains' by consumer watchdog Which? for failing to promote healthy eating in children." They want to ban them.
What a crap world we live in interfering do-gooders attack even cartoon adverts. Anybody else fed up with this drivel?

    • ANSWER:
For goodness sake this Nanny state we live in is just about doing my head in!!!!! I'm sick to death of being told I should do this, that and everything else!!!!
What a sterile view of the world our kids will grow up in, nothing like real life.
I say let kids be flipping kids, wrap them up in cotton wool and just see what happens when they are out there as an adult trying to cope with life's nasties and disappointment.

  4. QUESTION:
Dream about a son and 3 cats?
I've been dreaming that I become a father with a son. in my dream, I protect my son, I always following him, watching over him and talk to him whenever he need an answer.

    this is the odd thing:
    1. I am single, have no current love interest because too concern about my current project (I'm a writter)
    2. I am a pure Asian, but my son is caucasian, blonde, and healthy. (he's adventure type)
    3. I am not a man but acting like protector which is means, I am a father in my dream

next, my son enter the house. it was not my real house, but it was very cozzy and I like it there just like my dream house. when he goes up to the second stair, my servant ask my son to help her chase away about 3 cats in her kitchen.
those 3 cats have live there for a long time. and they are like parasite. they are male cats, fat and evil looks (I like cats, but this one ... well, couldn't say I dont like them, but I need to drive them away too)
so I help my son chase away the 3 cats.
but those cats are eager to stay in my kitchen.
the more we try to chase it away, the more it resist.
last thing, i throw it out from the house, and lock the door, but somehow the cat grip my arms with it's paw (yea, I wonder how too) it so persist to stay

and after I awake, it's grip stills linger. I still can feel it.
and I still feel like a proud father having a healthy son.
(his age about 2-3 years old. not much talking but curious)

I presume dream about healthy son is a good news, but not about the cat.
and three of them were not my cats. my cats are more gorgerous than those ugly fat persian cats ==a

oh, the color of those cats : blue (yea, that's odd), white with black stripe, and black with white accent (just like cow) those cats just looks like old cartoon persian cats come to live
now that I recall that when I was a child, I once have 3 cat dolls with color of blue, black and the last one I forget.

PS : if this dreams sounds funny, or great to be making fun of, please stay away,
I will really apreciate it when you only answer this to interprete my dream.

  7. QUESTION:
toddler watching tv in daycare ok?
How much TV should a almost 3 year old boy watch? What is healthy? We just moved to a new area where my boyfriends ex has lived. my boyfriends son has been going to a daycare part time for almost a year and now full time that we live here. everytime that i have picked him up (should be naptime) all the kids are watching a movie (noneducational, just cartoon) and playing quietly with the teacher and eachother. I was told at those times were nap times. I could pay a babysitter to watch movies with him. shouldnt they be put to sleep with quiet music or something like that? is that normal? our old daycare would only watch movies as a last resort if it was raining and they didnt have crafts or something like that to do. My boyfriends ex doesnt want to change daycares because he is "established" there and she said she doesnt think it is that big of a deal. Is it????
My boyfriend is also concerned about this..not just me. He doesnt think he should be paying that much to watch movies. I am asking for him.

    • ANSWER:
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids under age 2 have no screen time, and that kids older than 2 watch no more than 1 to 2 hours a day of quality programming. Being in the same room as a television that is on counts!

It's also a good idea to make sure your child has a wide variety of free-time activities in addition to TV, video games, and the Internet. Activities like reading, playing with friends, and sports can all play a vital part in helping your child develop a healthy body and mind.

  8. QUESTION:
    What does this dream symbolize?
I had this dream last night about these twin boys. They looked almost the same but you could still tell the difference. One twin was jealous of the other because their parents liked him better and he got everything etc. Well anyway for some reason the parents died and the boys got separated (I'm guessing through foster care the dream didn't outline that). The boy who as jealous of his brother did really well, became popular and finished high school etc. Unfortunately his brother was so traumatized by his parents death and retreated into himself.

Well anyway the jealous twin got a girlfriend and was living with her. He found his brother and vowed to take care of him but really the jealous, healthy twin was planning to kill his sick twin brother. His twin brother was almost like a child again even though they were both now adults.

So the girlfriend and healthy twin were lying in bed, facing each other. So the girlfriend said: "Are you going to tell him that you're going to kill him?" The twin said: "I don't know". The girlfriend replied with: "But are you going to tell him that his middle name means to kill?" (it was something like that). There was a space between them on the bed, the sick twin was lying in between them listening, but for some reason the healthy twin and his girlfriend didn't know. It was like he was invisible or something.

Then it cut to the sick twin lying on his side in the night (the whole thing was at night). He wa awake and then he slowly sat up and stared right ahead, he grabbed his head and pulled it off sort of like those cartoons. Only his neck slowly ripped open like a seam and underneath was this grotesque, horrifying head of an alien like monster. Think alien vs predator that kind of scary alien. It had greenish skin, red eyes and I really can't remember what else but it really scared me. It just stared right ahead and then I woke up and it took me ages to get back to sleep again.

    What could this dream mean?

    • ANSWER:
frequently such dreams are caused by something you ate prior
to bed time. Something hard to digest can bring on a nightmare..
It could have many other meanings ,but this is an obvious cause.

  9. QUESTION:
My hair is either a mess or greasy?
When I wash my hair its been coming out stiff as of late, it sticks together and its no fun at all.

My hair is kinda shaggy. A lot like the cartoon character from Scooby Doo now that I think about it... lol

But anyway, when I wash my hair it comes out stiff and angry I'll say lol, I used to use conditioner but it would make my hair all greasy which messed up my hair and it feels gross!

I just want soft, nice, HEALTHY hair and I don't come from a family of divas I live with woodland lumberjacks so I don't know a lot. I don't want bad hair :-3 Im all about the appearances and I make sure to keep myself clean, plus ladies dig the sweet hair :P

So on that comment Im looking for some products that have a nice smell to them but not a Feminine smell either, something Masculine (if possible)

Thank you all so much it means the world to me I love hair!

    • ANSWER:
Hmm, I would suggest finding a good shampoo (I've heard that one of the body/hair washes work nicely -- maybe old spice or something?), also I find that my hair looks healthy after two shampoo's, that way it get's properly cleaned. Maybe try a conditioner if you want soft, but this time use less conditioner, and be sure to wash it all out! If you leave some in accidentally it tends to look greasy.

  10. QUESTION:
Does this make me and my boyfriend bad parents?
OK i want your honest opinion. My boyfriends mom came over to our house and we were in the living room with our 3 1/2 year old Kaden. We had music on and were having a good time dancing and playing. Well the song Blah Blah Blah came on and we kept it on and his mom freaked out on us saying, "How could you let your son listen to this garbage?" And my bf said that Kaden didn't understand and it was fine. I agree completely. Then Bedrock came on but we still listened to it. His mom got even more upset and turned it off. But in a calm voice said why don't we just talk and turn on tv. So we shrugged it off and turned on the TV. Silent library was on and once3 again she got upset and said it was inappropriate. So i admit i let my son listen to our music(hip hop,r&b, very little rap, pop,and country) and watch some of our shows (MTV,MTV2, Two and a half men, Reba ext.) But he also listens to his songs (nursery rhymes, and he loves country) and watch his cartoons, and when the tv is on it is mainly his cartoons. And no my son is not always in front of the TV. He watches it about 2 hrs on and off a day. But he is very active and healthy. SO i know we take care of him. He goes outside with us alot. So in your honest opinion are we bad parents for letting our son watch and listen to this kind of stuff? Thank you

    • ANSWER:
No, you're not bad parents, but you do need to be more cognizant of what you child hears. Your boyfriend's mom is absolutely correct. He does understand at his age what he hears. This is his model.

  11. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:
Been there, done that. You may have what's called Maladaptive Daydreaming. It's a condition that causes excessive, obsessive daydreaming. You are describing some of the symptoms. Take a look at this article and see if this sounds like you:

      http://daydreamingdisorder.webs.com/

I have this problem. I've been excessively daydreaming my whole life since I was a very small child. There are actually a lot of people with this problem. There are even forums online about it:

      http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/maladaptivedaydreamers/

      http://wildminds.ning.com/

Obviously, no one can diagnosis you over the internet. Best of luck and hope this all helps.

  12. QUESTION:
Autism / Aspergers 21 month old daughter?
Okay I'll try to make this as quickly as possible.

My daughter is 21 months old. Her and my wife had a smooth pregnancy and delivery, she's perfectly healthy and always has been, all check up's and shot's - the doctor said she looked perfect at her 18 month.

Lately my wife and I have noticed some unusual and consistent patterns.
    1. The shaking of the hands. When I get home from work, my mom comes over, or her favorite show comes on she gets very excited and shakes her hands in front of her face and kind of bounces up and down.
    2. Repetitive habits - she has this weird habit where she'll just mosey up to a door, wall, window, etc. and drum it with open hands for 10 - 20 seconds at a time and sometimes she does this a lot 10 - 20 times daily.
    3. She still chews on things a lot! We just got her off the pacifier about 2 months ago so I don’t know if it’s due to that?
    4. She's very non-sociable with other children her age and no pretend play.

Up until a few days ago I didn’t notice anything. I felt like she was a perfectly normal 21 month old baby that maybe; didn't talk as much as she should. I'd say she can pronounce about 15-20 words. But she only initiates the use of mama and dadew(dada). But now I'm looking at all these websites and it's making me wonder.

The question is for people w/ experience with autistic children. Should I be worried about these signs? Or should I just dedicate a little more time to one-on-one and make more of an effort to putting her in more social situations with children her age?

I know this is gonna sound shitty but. My wife works from home and my daughter is an only child. The majority of my daughter’s day consists of playing by herself and watching cartoons. We play with her a lot and I'm very attentive when I come home but after 30 minutes of playing I'm ready to eat, chill, and get things done around the house. We're obviously making big adjustments to our schedules to make the day more interactive and beneficial as whole. So question #2

Do you think some of these symptoms could be from living with a non-sociable and a usually uneventful schedule that consists mainly of alone play and tv during the day?

Just as an FYI my wife and I have decided to wait until her second birthday to decide on taking her to the doctor. In the meantime we're going to dedicate a lot more one-on-one / play time. My wife has arranged for the neighbor's daughters to come over a couple times a week to play. My sister and mom are going to visit more and take her 1 day a week so she can be around other people.
For the most part she doesn’t have any of the usual symptoms of autism or aspersers but there are a couple and it worries me.
    Let me know - Thanks

  14. QUESTION:
Will the remaining 2010's decade become any better than what we dreamed that the 2000's would be?
For example, better than this stuff now?
-A terrorist attack on American soil one year into the millenium
    -A bad economy
    -High gas prices
    -President Bush in office
-All TV turns from gold to crap
-Less classic and cartoon reruns unless you live outside the US or in some major city (related to the above)
-The end of analog television (digital TV is kind of so-so)
    -Dire economic predictions
-National problems which I'd rather have to face different ones
    -Political correctness

The good on the other side is:
-Technology and convenience (even though I am a preferred user of older analog things)
-Food hasn't declined in quality yet
-The movies and music were kind of okay, for me anyway
-People are getting healthier in a way just recently

Which of these do you think would still be here in the coming years, which I say is 2-5 years from now?

    • ANSWER:
Which of these do you think would still be here in the coming years, which I say is 2-5 years from now?

      - Bad economy
      - High gas prices
      - Crappy tv stuff
      - National problems

Personally I didn't find 2010 any of a special year. 2000 was so-so I guess, things seemed to have been a little bit better before all the declines that happened in the past years including 9/11.

  15. QUESTION:
babysitting and almost done, worried about when the mom comes home tomorrow?
I'm "helping" aka doing all the work pretty much, and i've been doing an AMAZING job, the problem is i believe in not spoiling the child and letting the kid know that the adult is the boss, not the child, but not obnoxiously like military or anything. But the mom is 21 and really party-party-girl not responsible at all and spoils her rotten all the time and gives in and lets her kid run the house cuz she's the only child and the mom is always gone and probably feels guilty about it...and if you say no to her when the mom's around....you will regret it cuz she will yell and make it sound like you hit the kid or something. She lets her listen to bad songs that have lyrics like "cheater cheater where'd you meet that no good white trash hoe...and she can rot in hell and tell her i said so" and also, "if you ain't getting drunk, get the fuck out the club, where are all my alcoholics at" and "she broke my heart in the trailer park, so i jack the keys to that fucking car and drove that piece of shit and walked away" the kid is 3 years old.

I bought a cd with kid only songs and not letting her listen to those, and only letting her watch cartoons that aren't violent and that are ment for three year olds. And i don't let her run the house, when she doesn't listen, like when she was drawing on this mini whiteboard and i told her i had to get her dressed and she didn't stop but she was erasing what she drew so i waited but then she started drawing again and TOTALLY ignored that i was even there, i took the marker out of her hand and she automatically called for my friends name cuz she knows he'll let her get her way (i'm teaching him a thing or do, to be better at handling her) and i lifted her up gently and carried her to her room down the hall and she started bawling, but i didn't give in, i got her dressed and she was fake crying the whole time just trying to get my friend to give in and feel bad for her, but he backed me up and told her that she had to get dressed....

the problem is, the mom will be PISSED at me for "telling her kid no" and i know that her kid is gonna spill about all the times i didn't let her get her way and actually made her listen (i don't spank or hit, it's sets a bad example), and plus i've been working so hard to reverse all that her moms done and taught her...all the bad habits, it's all gonna be over and she'll go back to being a big brat and throwing fights (for example: the other day, the grandparents, they are even WORSE then the mom, but not with the music or anything, they let her sleep in bed with them even though she's old enough to sleep alone, they NEVER tell her no, they feed her crap like fried chicken and stuff her full of macaroni and cheese, they don't feed her any veggies only the apple juice that she can't live without, when she cries they give in after not even a second, it's just sickening how in control that little girl is, and how they are sooooo STUPID and don't even see how skrewed up it is, and get mad when someone actually tells her to stop and starts taking control back, anyways, the other day they were driving and she saw the big boy resturant and would NOT stop throwing a hissy fit till they took her there, and they gave in) and when mom finds out, no more babysitting that involves me, only the uncle that i'm helping.

what should i do?? i don't want the mom mad at me, but at the same time i don't feel guilty or bad about how i was with her, i played with her ALL the time, watched cartoons the whole day, made HEALTHY home made dinner instead of mcdonalds like they do, i took her to the playground, and she has a rash with alot of little bumps and i always made sure i put lotion on it everyday, i told her how much i loved her and kissed her, and treated her REALLY good. So i don't feel i should be in trouble, but since the moms so frickin dumb from all the brain cells she lost while getting wasted four nights in a row so many times (she's at the grandparents house when she goes out on the weekends and binges) What should i say when her mom tells me i should've let her get her way and not made her follow the rules i made (which were fair and very simple:
No back talk to adults, no fake crying or any crying for a silly reason like getting the marker taken away for not listening or crying to get attention, no tantrums when she doesn't get her way, when the adults are talking she has to wait her turn, very little junk food or sweets and she had to sleep in her own bed like a big girl does, and when we say no we mean no
Nothing "horrible" or "illegal"...what do i tell her when she gets mad
obviously if the only thing i pointed out was wrong was her still sleeping with the parents, then you agree that all the other stuff was wrong. And plus, she needs to learn to sleep alone, she's going to preschool soon, she's getting a lil older and she needs to get into the habit of being able to fall asleep by herself

    • ANSWER:
It seems to me your judging the mother and the way she raises a child. Be an adult (dont know if you are) and tell the mother how you been with her child before the kid tells on you. You also need to talk to the mother about how you handle children and if she doesnt agree with your methods then she needs to find someone else to babysit. And for God sakes she is 3 you act like 3 year olds dont throw tantrums. If you ever do babysit for her again follow the moms rules if you dont like it then quit.

ADD: I just wish the mother and grandparents could read this. WHat is so wrong about a child sleeping with the parents?

  16. QUESTION:
What is actually the real meaning of childish?
Im a 30 year old guy who pays all of his bills on time and handles responsibility very well. I play video games from rpg to violence, eat junk foods but eats healthy in some way, exercise everyday, watch cartoons like family guy but I also watch mature movies, I love toys, and all of the stuff that leads to fun except for drugs. Im not married and Im no longer pressured about it because I'm enjoying my single life.

It just pisses me off a little when people think I'm childish because of all the things I mentioned above. But when I look into the way they live their lives, I notice that most of them who think Im childish are the ones that are not happy with their marriage and try to pressure me, not happy with their relationships, very self righteous for the wrong reason, get penalties from banks for not paying in time, don't have peace with their past, ego maniacs, don't go to church on Sundays and forced sometime, etc. I don't know if their jealous of me but there are some friends of mine who are the opposite and act like me.

    • ANSWER:
Age is only as old as you feel. Hey, I am over 60 and people sometimes tell me to act my age.

You know what I tell them??

" This is the first time in my life that I have been this age, so I don't know how to act it"..

I still do things I did when I was 20 and 30...as long as I can do it, why not.?

Age is only for those who are conscientious of it. Enjoy your life. You will outlive your friends.

  18. QUESTION:
College binge eaters..how do you cope?
So I am 20 yrs and will be a senior in the fall...I go back to college in sept but I suffer with binge eating disorder...I am seeing a therapist and am working on issues from the past as well as everyday stress that trigger me to binge...The thing is I live on campus that means buffet style meals and vending machines...

I go to the gym, journal, draw cartoons, read, listen to music but sometimes when the urges get back I just fall and plunge into the food...When I binge I binge on both junk and healthy food but I do not keep junk food in the room but I have a roommate who does...

This is a question to only college students who live on campus who binge eat...what are some things that you do to cope and prevent binge eating??

    • ANSWER:
eat full meals rich in protein... that way, u could do away with the urge of binging on breaks. u see, it takes 4hours to fully digest proteins, 2hours for carbo.. so if your meals consist of protein, it'd take you the next mealtime before you get hungry.

  19. QUESTION:
Am I being too strict with my son?
My son is 8, and I don't let him watch TV or play on the computer unless it is saturday and he stays on the right channels and websites. I limit him to cartoons and animal shows (not the animals fighting, the ones about how they live and such). Also, he is only allowed to have healthy food (I want my little boy to grow up strong, not fat), and one small dessert a day, like a fun-sized candy or a scoop of ice cream. He has to make his bed and his room is kept squeaky clean. He is also only allowed at friend's houses that I know their parents very well. If he doesn't do well in school (less than B's), then I have him re-study the material he got a bad grade on. I am just trying to make him a good boy, but he is starting to get upset with me. What do I do, my husband is the same as me, and I have a 7 month old to take care of as well. Please tell me how I can loosen up, but keep him safe. Thank you for your help!

    • ANSWER:
I absolutely applaud you. More parents should follow your lead...things used to be more like that way back when and children grew up with a lot more responsable behavior and respect then they have these days. The only complaint I can make about what you say you do is the expecting a certain letter grade out of him....I don't believe you should ever give him any expectation except that he does the absolute best he can...what his best is in each thing can vary greatly...please try to relax a bit on that issue. As for his complaints...its normal to complain to your parents about what they make you do and don't let you do...what I tell my kids...Im the boss, you live in my house, my rules and I am well aware that there are different ways of doing things....it isn't like I thought my way was the only way...so I'm not changing it...accept it.

  20. QUESTION:
That's it, time to be honest moms, just watched the Oprah show on motherhood...?
and I've realized that it's ok to be honest about how you feel about being a mom. I'm always on here asking questions and wow, every time I get answers about a set schedule with your kids, and mommy groups, and reading books and playing all the time with your kiddos. I'm going to be honest and say that my kids watch a lot of cartoons, well at least my 3 1/2 yr old does. My 1 year old enjoys some shows but she plays with her toys and walks around mostly. I do feed them 3 good meals a day, try to give them healthy foods, but we have a very boring daily life. I live in a small town, don't really enjoy the people around me, and there's nothing to do and not a whole lot of money to spend to go do fun things daily. There's one tiny park with 1 slide and a swing set in my town. I'm so bored during the day it's driving me crazy, and I do feel like while my kids are clean, being fed well, and I love them more than anything, our days are just so boring and unfulfilled. I also often feed my 1 yr old while she's walking around and just now she found a piece of food in my oldest daughter's room that was part of her lunch (a chicken taquito). Anyone else want to be honest and tell how you really are as a mom?
Oh, and I'm a stay at home mom and I think I would be a better mom if I was a working mom because I would appreciate the time I spent with my kids more, but then I don't trust anyone to watch my kids, so I'm stuck in a rut!
when I said watch a lot of cartoons I mean, the tv is on all day.

    • ANSWER:
oh god! thank you for being honest! i'm so sick of being judged on here any time anybody says anything negative about motherhood...yes, we really do like wiping poopy bums and cleaning old food, snot, drool, and puke off ourselves, our kids, and everything else in the house. we love doing that.

i find it extremely boring, too. i do love my kids and take care of them.

i just finished reading a book about this called "even june cleaver would forget the juicebox" and it says that most women feel like us, but would never dream of saying it b/c of social standards...that mothers are supposed to drop everything and love every moment of being a mother, and pretty much be perfect martyrs...and if we're not then we feel guilty and think of ourselves as bad moms.

as long as my kids turn out healthy and well mannered and have good values, then i was a good mom. even if they don't, i still know that i'm doing the best i could possibly do/know how.

  21. QUESTION:
Would you be so kind and correct my english homework? please! it's about readind and books!?
Books are pieces of literature that are written for a certain target group. There are many different kinds of books and each one teach us other things, depending on what the author of the book himself wants to convey to the readers. The two main groups of books are fiction and non-fiction books.
Fiction books are stories made up by the author. First and foremost they are written to entertain and amuse the readers. For example adventure stories, cartoons, fantasy books, spy and detective stories, romances and crime and horror books. Moreover, there are fictitious classics and modern classics.
Non-fiction books are based on reality. There are scientific books mostly used in schools or at universities, cooking books which contain many recipe or travel guides. Other examples for non-fiction books are biographies or self-help books.
But what are the advantages of reading a book?
Books offer us entertainment, fun, tension or knowledge. Whereas comics, cartoons, adventure stories etc are read for fun, scientific books teach us something.
Many people read to pass away time, because they like to sit down in a comfortable chair and read through a story. It means relaxation, fun and is rewarding for the mind. Reading is a wonderful source of pleasure for many people, and can provide a healthy escape from routine.
Books also improve your vocabulary and broaden your horizon. Reading is an excellent source of information of all types.
But of course, reading is time consuming and may restrain them from doing other important things. Another negative effect that a lot of reading may have on people is that they might become so fixated with gaining information from books and might get very influenced by the author that they loose the ability to form their own opinion.
In spite of these disadvantages, I think that reading is a great possibility to relax but also to learn something new. I generally like reading a lot, but at the moment I have really less time for it. When I was younger, I used to devour young adult novels. I read up to three books a day! Unfortunately, I’m quite busy at the moment and I have a lot to do for school so that reading is quite rare in my current life. We also read a lot of books for school. In german we always read classics and in English we read a lot of young adult novels. I love reading short stories, because they don’t take so much time. Furthermore I’m very interested in stories about people who live in other countries and in romances. I’m not very keen on fantasy books or cartoons and books about crimes or politics I don’t like at all. I usually buy my books in a book shop in Vienna and swap them with friends. When I was younger I often borrowed books from the library. Everytime when fly to another country I buy books at the local airport of this country. These books always deal with stories of the country and I’m really proud of my collection.
For me, reading means relaxation. I really enjoy reading a good book in my cosy bed before going to sleep. I also love to read on long journeys on plane, train or in the car.

This is pretty good on the whole. I've marked a few things I think you should change or at least think about again.

[Not sure what you mean. Are you trying to contrast modern and other classics? I don't think fictitious is the right word. Check it in a dictionary.]
Non-fiction books are based on reality. There are scientific books mostly used in schools or at universities, cooking books which contain many recipeS, or travel guides. Other examples OF non-fiction books are biographies or self-help books.

  22. QUESTION:
Jehovah Witness please stop and think are you a good neighbor?
    James 1:19
    (King James Version)
19Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
    (English Standard Version)
    19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

    1 Timothy 5:8
    (King James Version)
8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
    (English Standard Version)
8But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

    Matthew 5:43-44 (King James Version)
43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
    44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Jehovah Witness please stop disfellowshipping(blacklisting/shunning) and hating family members or anyone for that matter who do not believe in your watchtower.

    1 John 4:7-8
    (King James Version)
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
    (English Standard Version)
7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

And here is something for you to think about I have taken my LORD Jesus Christ's parable of the Good Samaritan and rewrote it for a more modern day situation and group of people and problems.

A Jehovah Witness said, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
I said to him, “What is Jehovah's purpose and teaching of the law?”
The Jehovah Witness answered and said, “ ‘You shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
And I said to him, “Correct; do this and you will live.”
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to me, “And who is my neighbor and is their limits to when I should help him?”
    Then I answered and said:
“A certain child had an accident which left him bleeding to death and has lost so much blood he needed a blood transfussion to live.
Now by chance a certain Jehovah Witness passed by the hospital. And when he saw him, he passed by on praying for the child.
Likewise a nurse, when she arrived at the emergency room, came and looked, and respected the parents decision not to give a blood transfussion.
But a certain Trinitarian Doctor, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.
So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, giving him the needed blood transfussion without his parents permission saving the childs life; and he brought him an ice cream cone, brought him to a TV with cartoons,
    and took care of him.
On the next day, when he departed, he seen his parents were very upset, and said to them, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you do please take make sure he stays healthy.’
So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell to the horrible accident?”
And the Jehovah Witness said, “The Trinitarian Doctor.”
Then I said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
(Rewritten by me but not done because of me but for all, special thanks to LORD Jesus Christ for this great and inspiring parable which has showed me it can be applied to almost any modern day situation.)
conundrum I hope you do know James 1:19
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

also applies to reading and praying attention...
Vot it amazes me how you destroy the entire point of Jesus giving this parable...

  23. QUESTION:
Room mates with kids parenting help?
My fiance, 2 yr and I have moved in with friends who have 2 children of their own ages 1 and 2. We give our son breakfast, lunch and dinner on a regular schedule, with limited snacks. However, we've noticed that they don't have their children on a schedule and rarely feed them a healthy meal. I'm concerned for their kids health but don't say anything because I don't want to look like I'm critizing them. Their kids live like this, they wake up (if they sleep at all) and they give the 2yr old juice and the 1 yr old still is on the bottle which they fill with half whole milk and half hot tap water so they dont have to microwave the bottle they say because they dont want to give them radiation poisoning(?? I've always used the microwave but my son is on sippy cups and we dont use the microwave now) breakfast consists of that and on the rare occasion they get a banana. there have been times that they've seen us make breakfast for our son and ask us to make extra for theirs but it is probably once a week that happens. Within the next hour after their 2yr old has another cup of juice. He has a cup of juice about 8 times a day. ONLY JUICE. NO WATER OR MILK. NOT EVEN 100% JUICE, JUICE THAT IS FULL OF SUGAR. they don't brush his teeth on the daily either, which i do with my son every morning. they dont have lunch unless their parents are eating and then they just nitpick at whatever they have. Dinner is rare for them as well. Sometimes they give them both the toddler gerber meals and sometimes the 1yr old has that bottle of milk and water and the 2yr old has his juice as usual. Also throughout the day they give them animal crackers, goldfish crackers, baby gerber puffs and string cheese which is a favorite of theirs. Also they don't have a sleep schedule. They sleep whenever they want their is no bedtime, they usually stay up until 2 or 3 in the am and then pass out and wake up around 8 or 9 in the am. Another thing that bothers me is that they leave their kids alone constantly in the bedroom with cartoons on so they can go out and have a cigarette. And something that almost caused me a heart attack, they left both kids in the tub with the water running drain plugged and went to have a cigarette, and asked me to keep an eye on them. Thank goodness i did, the second i walk in the 1 yr old is splashing away and slips back and falls underwater. if i had not walked in when i did god knows what would have happened. I'm concerned for these kids and don't know what to do or say! What should i do??
I'm afraid of involving or calling dyfs as i dont know what would happen, and i just think they need some parenting classes plus I don't want our child to suffer should they become involved. The one time we did bring up their parenting they threw it in our face that we only have 1 kid and they have 2 so that makes them "parenting masters" but obviously they are full of it. What can I do? What should I do????
I'm glad our financial status was more interesting than the facts i gave and what i was asking. Our financial stability was fine until being laid off last year, IF U MUST KNOW. and our friends offered to help us by letting us room with them temporarily while we financially stabalize ourselves once again. we would move if we could. but im glad there were a few who actually gave me an answer i was looking for. as ranting goes, im sorry im concerned about my friends children. maybe next time i see children being neglected or abused, ill turn the other way as it seems its exactly what u would do.

    • ANSWER:
You could try and talk to them about the meals and being on a schedule because that is important for a healthy growing kid. But if they seem to not want to talk about it than you can feed them right but if you don't want to help these kids then call the people so they can get "real help" but I personally think that's a bad idea to get child services involved because they might get taken away and who knows what kind of crazy people they may end up with.....

  24. QUESTION:
    Extreme Lucid Dreaming...?
I've always been a little extreme in my dreaming, often remembering my dreams after waking, and having very vivid dreams at that. Lately I've been able to lucid dream quite a bit more (I've always had luck with it, but not like this). The last few nights I've begun dreaming and had the ability to not only realize my dreams, but heavily control them. I've slept in way more than is considered healthy just to experience these dreams. I'll often start in a real world situation (last night it was taking a walk down a highway... not exactly something I would do, but much more conceivable than what happens in the rest of the dream). It then progresses from there into a chase of sorts through several different dream scenarios. Each "section" is very different from the last, and too strange to accurately explain. The main details are that I'm being chased through these dream caverns (I'm aware this whole time that I am dreaming) by an unknown being, and that I need to escape to wake up. Last night I was with my younger sister, but she wasn't being chased, she was just exploring. We encountered a lot of strange things (ie: a river of mist that our boats could float on). When the dream would get to intense all I had to do was create ghosts of cartoons I watched as a child (often scooby-doo) and they'd brighten the place up a bit.
    Anyway...
Is there something wrong with me that would make me have such intense dreams that it is affecting my daily waking habits? I'm not on any sort of medication, and during the day I live (what I would consider) a fairly normal life. And has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? Questions, comments, information; anything would help, please.

    • ANSWER:
Perhaps it's a childhood thing. DId anything like this happen to you when you were young, or did you see anything like this?

Also, have you ever had amnesia? A minor Concussion or just blank head when you try to remember something? If you have had amnesia, then maybe your brain is trying to fill in the gaps with false but seemingly real dreams to fool itself.

Other than that, I cant help me. Go see a doctor. Or buy one of those dream interpreting books.

  25. QUESTION:
What political party do I fit in (kinda long)?
I'll have you decide by my complaints of both parties, that also talk about what I believe

    Complaints about Liberals:
Government/cigarettes - you cry for less government but want the government to intervene in your everyone's life, like banning flavored cigarettes...that bones the right of free-market, while you're at it ban beer to. With that logic, you might as well ban everything that's appealing to youngsters with ONLY minor potentials to get into bad habbits, like movies with guns or even cartoons, correct me if I'm wrong, but that IS government controlling people's personal lives. Besides, what ever happened to parents?

Gun Control - Yes there should be some type of control with guns, but very limited. It's going against the amendment. It's protection. If guns are out of reach and you get robbed (because gun control won't stop thugs from getting guns, I know this, I used to live in the "hood", the only person to save you would be cops, you're dead by then. The good guys need guns to protect ourselves from bad guys.If you don't like guns, don't buy them, but don't tell me I can't

Soda - just because you drink soda excessively and can't take care of your teeth/body, don't make the people who can drink soda responsibly stop or try and tax it.

Racial Issues - Just because people's families were racist jerks to each other some generations back doesn't mean I have to apologize to non-whites my whole life. There's no reason for me to, because I'm not racist.

Death Penalty - I shouldn't even have to explain this. If you pity a murderer/rapist, you're sad. There has to be some kind of extreme to prevent this, making the death penalty illegal won't make murderers and rapists stop, it will increase the crime rate!!! They already kill/rape as it is, while KNOWING they could get a death penalty if they get caught.

    (not that many)Complaints About Conservatives
Gays - Just mind your own business, not one religion owns the right of marriage, they all just do it.. You guys act like there's some "religion headquarters" that says they're messing up the religions. That's like me saying you can't eat tortillas because the mexican/native indian people invented it, so you're disrespecting their culture.

Marijuana - Sorry to sound like a hippie, but It's not a drug, it's a plant. You can't OD from it no matter how much you smoke. It's scientifically proven that it's almost harmless and in some cases healthy. If your argument is "we can't have people high all the damn time" well, I could say "we can't have people drunk all the time", it's a matter of making sure people are smart with it, just like we have all the laws with alcohol. And besides I've never smoked with friends and woke up and have they say "dude, you know what you did last night? you banged an ugly fat chick, got in a fight with a bum and pissed yourself" - *AHEM* alcohol *ahem* (I like drinking btw)

Nationalism - Now this one doesn't tic me off, it's just really annoying. There is nothing wrong with loving your country, but some people get so crazed they almost have this militant nationalism...that can lead to bad things. We don't own the world, europeans aren't as bad as you think, just calm down. It's so bad that some people have gone to other countries waving american flags saying how bad their country sucks....I'm serious.
But I'm for freedom, so if you wanna get that crazy over your country, that's your choice....it's just annoying

Religion - Believe what you want, just don't force it down my throat or go around acting like your religion is the only one that exists or more "correct."

I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. Remember, just complaints/opinions, don't take it too seriously.
Btw, I know this more of a rant than a question, so what, sue me, it's still in question form

    • ANSWER:
i love long questions like this lol, so ill respond with a long answer.

government/cigarettes - ive never heard a liberal cry for less government on anything but abortion or gay/minority/drug issues. liberals want the government involved with everything, becuase in their mind the government is better than the private sector due to not being out for profit. what they dont understand is that the quest for profit is what makes things better and more affordable. its called competition, and its what our country is based on. as far as banning and taxing things they dont like, it gets a lot worse than soda and cigarettes. theyve actually tried to ban black cars. liberals think that they know better than everyone else, and impose their will in laws, justifying it as "its for their own good." heres a list of things liberals have tried to ban.

gun control - as another person from the "hood," i have also seen firsthand that criminals dont get guns lawfully, and those that do rarely abuse them. i had a friend named lamont that had been in prison twice by the time he was 19 on gun charges, and got a new pistol right when he got out the second time. i also have a friend named joe that legally had guns for years in the hood, and only used them when he went out to the country to shoot with his uncle. ive seen ak-47s. ive seen people shoot at other people. none of this is due to lack of gun control. more gun control takes away the ability for the innocent to protect themselves, and creates an environment that nurtures crime.

      soda - see government/cigarettes

racial issues - the facts are that free blacks owned slaves, often at a disproportionate rate compared to whites. there were many, many white slaves also. most slaveowners didnt whip their slaves out in the fields, they worked and ate alongside them. slaves were expensive, why abuse them? the majority of slaveowners also owned under 5 slaves, large plantations where slaves were treated worse were rare. as far as racial issues in general go, i think that the average liberal doesnt understand how much their policies are hurting minorities, especially blacks. the entitlement programs that are supposed to help poor blacks actually hurt them. a lot of black america grows up relying on the government. only 20% of blacks grow up with both parents. to a lot of people, the welfare check took on the role of the father. when people grow up depending on the government, they dont usually grow out of it. but the government paying your bills doesnt give you spending money, so what do you do? sell drugs, rob liquor stores, snatch purses etc. its an ongoing problem that no one will address. liberals say conservatives dont care about minorities, but i look at it this way: conservatives want minorities and the poor to get a job and take care of themselves. liberals think they need to take care of minorities and the poor because they cant take care of themselves. who really thinks more of them?

death penalty - i agree, but the problem is the cases where people are innocent. it sucks to kill someone and then find out after they die that they were innocent. its kind of like when tony montana kills his brother in scarface lol. so i think it should be legal, but only used when theres no doubt the person is guilty.

gays - i personally dont care if gays get married, but i dont see why they wont settle for civil unions. there is also the slippery slope argument, and thats why i say i wish theyd settle for civil unions. 50 years ago people wouldnt of dreamed gay marriage would be legal, so if it is whos to say in another 50 years we wont be able to marry family members? but i dont think there should be a federal law that goes either way, let the states decide.

marijuana - i completely agree. the war on drugs is very wasteful. plus legalization would take billions out of criminals hands and into businessmens hands. itd eliminate a lot of violence too. ive seen people get shot at over 3 ounces of weed. thats ridiculous. i also love the fact you compared it to alcohol, because alcohol is so much worse than it. hopefully we will get one good thing out of obamas presidency with this one lol. i also think other drugs should be legal, such as mdma (ecstasy), shrooms, lsd, etc. pretty much anything that doesnt do much long term harm and isnt addictive. oh and by the way, it isnt just conservatives opposing marijuana, its more republicans and democrats. politicians dont like the idea because itd be hard to tax and because public opinion is against it due to lack of public knowledge.

nationalism - i agree that some of the radicals are annoying, but id rather see people overdo it than under do it. theres so little patriotism in young americans today. the education system, especially college, makes a lot of kids think america is evil. there so many kids that think france would be a better place to live, and its just sad.

religion - i agree, but dont think it should be a complaint with conservatives. liberals have forced prayer out of schools and manger scenes and the ten commandments out of public. at the same time they fight for the rights of muslims to pray 400 times a day while at school or however many times it is. im not christian, personally i think religion is bs, but i hate it when people think christians are all rednecks who arent educated and hate gays. i think people need to stop having double standards. if we can mock jesus and christianity in political cartoons, then why cant we mock muhammad?

since you said you can go on and on, feel free to email me some more of your opinions, id like to see if we agree on more lol.

  26. QUESTION:
MY CAT, FLUFFER, HAS A TUMOR ON HIS HEAD, I NEED A REALLY GOOD VET/SURGEON IN NORTHERN NJ?
Fluffer is over 15 years old. My son brought him to me when he was so tiny he could fit in the palm of my hand. A child's book about our adventures is in the process. I drew cartoons and a story line and am putting it together now. Fluffer has traveled with me cross country a few times by land and air. His first flight was when he was a couple of months old and he was so nervous he pooped and I had to clean him up in the Lav....he was so cute. Every night he sleeps next to me, snuggled against the back of my legs. Lately, in the middle of the night I feel him brushing his paw against my face. You see, Fluff was born blind, one eye larger than the other and no tear ducts. When I first got him, the Vet wanted to take his eyes out because he would eventually have problems. I would not allow it and took him to someone else. Fluff has been very healthy and so happy all his life. That's what being indoors and lots of love does.....Just this past year he started sneezing so much so that blood would splatter about. I took him to two Vets and they determined he had abscessed teeth (I had dental surgery done about 8 years ago), so he had two more teeth removed and was given antibiotics. However, it did not help the sneezing. I had noticed a lump appearing between his eyes and assumed it was due to the infection. I had him X-rayed and was told it is a tumor and most likely cancerous and that he would likely not survive surgery at his age. It is getting bigger now.... Needless to say, I am so frightened as I can't imagine my life without my Fluffer. I wish I could show you his picture. I have a trillion of them. I need the name of a really good Vet for a second opinion; I need to know if #1 - it is cancer #2 his surgical chances. #3 would this affect his brain. Other than sneezing, he seems OK, still a little frisky and happy! For a couple of days he did walk around in kind of a daze, but that passed. Oh, please please - I need him to live! Any direct referrals (personal experience) would be greatly appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
The site that can help you is over on Yahoogroups, it's called "handicats', the owners there have dealt with everything from paralysis to tumors, so I'd suggest joining up over there and asking.

Is there a veterinary college in your state? Do they take unusual patients? Or is there a feline specialist in your city? A second opinion is a good thing to get on this, as well as referrals.

Surgery would depend on his condition as well as his age, and the type of tumor and the location. Taking one out of the upper nasal passages may not be something able to be done. Is his breathing impaired yet? It won't put pressure on the brain if it's not inside the skull, and is only in the nasal passages, but this would require a qualified vet to evaluate.

  27. QUESTION:
How do I hook a husband?
ok so my life is basically screwed up. Lost my dad, I have a sick mother, a family who think I died too -_- *yeah*, 4 years of education and no degree, no job and cant seem to find one in the ever so lovely place i live (pittsburgh, pa no matter how hard I keep trying contacted like 5 places and got one response and it was no becoz I dont kno how to drive -_-), I cant afford college at all anymore and I've taken out loans that's gonna chew my ass, I've got till feb to start payin back loans if I cant get into another school, I wake up PISSED everyday for the effed up situation I'm in that I cannot change or make better, and currently i'm depressed.

I've exhausted all of my options, and even new ideas. I'm 22 yrs old (female if you cant tell) i'm 5'3, 155lbs, my natural hair color changes with the seasons, but I was a blonde now I'm sorta a red-head. I'm broke, but I have a good personality & attributes, No kids at all, social drinker & smoker but neither are habits (actually haven't done either for about 5 months), I know how to cook a lil bit, and I love cleaning (i do lol :D ), I love to have fun (even tho recently it hasnt been working), I enjoy almost anything (& yes I do watch sports & cartoons :P ), I am bi, and very opened minded to new, interesting and exciting things......But I haven't snagg no one why??? hell if I kno.....all I get are the liars, cheaters or the all time favorites guys & gals who already have a bf/gf whatever and I'm just the chick on the side. Which is something I don't want to continue becoz it's not healthy at all.

So how do I snagg a husband. I've got nothing to lose or gain, there's not much else for me to do. I guess i need a lil or some type of stability in my life to say well hey i've got that or I know what's happening, you kno??

I'm not doing this for personal gain, becoz there's nothing really to gain from a marriage (but that's fully my opinion and please don't bitch at me about it).

Age is not a factor for me, neither is race or ethnicity, like i said i'm opened minded. I just need something else. I've actually lost all hope and if I cant find a husband. I see a life of being the creepy old animal lady that scares children into heart attacks *ha ha ha* but no seriously. I'm not slutty or sleezy, I am well educated regardless....just lost my place in life which sucks. But crap happens *shrugs* I'm tired of dating sites, and especially waiting for mr. rite taking his time about coming to me. I'm making a cruicial decision in my life right now and i need to know where I stand and what my next move will be.

if you have any POSITIVE opions on solving this please leave feedback ^_^

if you need to contact me send me an email!!

    thanx in advance!!
I'm miserable & depressed becoz my life sucks it actually does. I do the same thing everyday and everyday I'm bored.

I dont need meds.....I'm already on meds that mentally screw with me from time to time lol but cant have what you want rite?? So I'm deciding to go after what I DONT WANT.

Things just have never gone my way so I'm tired of fighting it. I'm very ambitious, probably cant tell, but it's slowly going away. Especially the additional with friends. I love my friends don't get me wrong but currently I feel out of place with them if you catch what I mean. Like all my girlfriends are in relationships if not married. All my guy friends are just ever so perfect, getting jobs here and there that they only plan on keeping for 2 months. Then theres me single (was happy for a moment), educated nothing to prove that tho, the youngest and only one my age in my family :p and more bills than I can stick a shake at!! LIKE OMG!!
I apparently did something WRONG to get the worse life ever!! I mean even the enslaved, deprived, poverty stricken people saw a brighter day, right?? Me I keep seeing the same effin grey cloud that'll NEVER go away. Everytime I take 2 steps I'm knocked back 20.

dont get it twisted. I'm not desperate or needy for a man or husband. I do handy and mechanical work myself. It's not even for companionship lol my life is MISERABLE and I might as well do the things that I do want to do.

Quite honestly I dont want to get married that thought left my mind a while ago, even more so now. But now you're thinking then wtf do you wanna get married for??? o_O?? Becoz I've got nothing, no job, no education, a sick mother, a house thats in DIRE need of repairs, live in a run down unacknowledged town. I may be "young" but I kno when things are right and cannot be fixed my life's like the devil version of the serenity prayer...not a good combo at all. but it's either marriage or suicide *shrugs*

  28. QUESTION:
Is my toddler getting enough socialization?
I have a unique situation as a mom. My husband has multiple sclerosis (it was very mild a few years ago but now severe). I'd like to share some history: We married the fall of 2007. I was 40 and he was 53 and we really never spoke seriously about having children at that point. First of all, I had beautiful 10-year-old son from a previous marriage...plus we felt we were too old (at least he did!)....plus the powerful meds he had been on for years, he feared, would make it unsafe or impossble to become a dad anyway...and besides all of that, I was using an IUD for birth control. So for all these reasons, a pregnancy seemed pretty unlikely!

Well....to our surprise, we found out we were indeed having a baby girl. We were told numerous times the pregnancy wouldn't make it...but to the surprise of many docs, it did! And she arrived healthy.

Today, she is 22 months and my husband is very ill from MS and other problems. I doubt he'll make it three more years. My days are spent at home a lot to be near my husband and take care of our household. I've tried to get involved with play groups but I find myself feeling emotionally drained and uncomfortable chatting with the parents. I'm not usually like this but just feel I need some psychic space, these days, if that makes sense. I just don't feel up to small talk these days or sharing my problems with a light-hearted group. I'm not depressed but just need some emotional space, I guess. On rainy days (we live in the NW), we stay in a lot and play with toys (but she gets really bored with them after a short time), we do watch some cartoons but I try and keep that very minimal. I do use toons so I can take a shower, make a call, or pay bills, etc. We take a walk in the rain at least once at day and she loves that. She plays with my older son when he gets home from school and loves that as well. I take her everywhere with me (store, post office, etc.) so she can at least get out of the house and be around the public. We read a lot, We color. On nice days, we go to the park almost every day and enjoy the playground and hiking trails. She loves this as well.

I guess my concern is the fact that we aren't around a lot of other toddlers that often (except the playground where there is more staring at each other than interaction!)..., we don't do storytime at the library...or do things I would normally do under more normal circumstances at home. No preschool or anything like this. Although we are planning lots of zoo visits when the weather improves a bit here. We've done two so far and she loves it.

Just wondering if I should be concerned about her not being around other children as much as many her age. It is a very trying time for myself and my husband, I don't want to neglect any of her needs.

    Any thoughts?

    • ANSWER:
I believe you are doing everything right for everyone but yourself. Don't be embarrassed to ask a relative to help out occasionally and take your child for an afternoon, preferably one with a child 2-4 years old. She can learn from children that are slightly older and she will feel like a "big girl." It won't be long before she will be going to kindergarten and will get plenty of socialization and will learn lots of things from the other children.

I'm sorry you are having to carry such a heavy burden but you will get through it....one day at a time.
      God bless and strengthen you.

  29. QUESTION:
    I cant stand studying?
I just cant stand it!!! I'm not dumb, everybody I know says I'm very intelligent..I like to do other things in life like making music, working out, making cartoons, etc. It sounds weird but I think I'm allergic to studying. Whenever I sit down to study my energy level rapidly decreases! I workout for 1 hour everyday and I eat an extremely healthy diet (wheat, meat, vegetables) and I drink 4 litres of water in a day and I feel energetic and active ALL THE TIME..but only when I study this happens. I know that studying is necessary in this world we live in. But I just hate it SOOO much I find it VERRRY hard to just sit down and do it.

Thank you, Susan. Yes, innocence is truly sacred.

    • ANSWER:
I don't know about the cause of your seizure. One thing that I have heard of for seizures or their prevention is to take good magnesium supplements. I know a little about it, since I have had a migraine for almost 28 years straight. It has some sort of relation to seizure activity and some of the more effective meds I've been given are for seizure prevention, too. Try magnesium gluconate or something other than magnesium oxide. Epsom salt can be taken in water, just a quarter teaspoon or so a day. Don't take too much or it causes diarrhea.

Stay well! It is always a blessing to feel like a happy child, isn't it?

Thank you

    • ANSWER:
I don't think it makes you bad parents, but I do think he is old enough to pick up on bad language/behavior.
He is at an age where he is absorbing everything around him so I personally would want those things to be age appropriate.

    • ANSWER:
Your text is very good. In the sentence that starts "In german": you need to capitalize German. The sentence "Everytime when fly to another country" should be Everytime "I" fly to another country. There may be some other mistakes (my English is not perfect!) but they are probably very minor as well. I think you will do very well with this homework.
